Bowen Therapy and Stress

Are you feeling stressed?

How does stress affect you?

Where in your body are you feeling it?

Are you finding it hard to relax and switch off?

Is getting to sleep a problem?

Stress is a normal physical response to anything that threatens you in any way.

The body’s response to stress is for your nervous system to release stress hormones, which include adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones then prepare your body for an emergency causing your heart to beat faster, blood pressure to rise, muscles to tighten, breathing to become faster and senses to heighten.

This response can save you in an emergency e.g. running from danger or avoiding an accident BUT too much stress (ie always in emergency mode) can cause damage to your health, your relationships and your way of life.

The causes of stress can be positive or negative. Positive can be getting married, having a baby or getting a job promotion. Negative can be the death of a loved one, relationship problems, financial difficulties, job loss, or lack of time to get things done.

Stress may present in physical forms:

Muscle aches and pains.

Back, shoulder and neck pain.

Cramps and muscle spasms.

Stomach upsets e.g. diarrhea/ constipation.

Stress may also present emotionally:

Mood swings.

Agitation/ Anxiety.

Inability to relax.

Here is where a Bowen Therapy session can help you.

Bowen has a relaxing and balancing effect on the whole body. Any pain or symptom of stress in the body is addressed. Two one-hour sessions a week apart are recommended as an overall body-balancer. A session is normally $70.

Clients find they stay healthier and their immune systems fight off the winter ills better when they have a couple of Bowen sessions every six months.

Getting to the root of your health problem

Could you imagine being pain-free? Being able to do all the things you are passionate about?

Finding the root of your health problem involves a bit of detective work.

One of the most important questions that should be asked is “When did this first start happening?” Invariably this question brings up a time when the body has been under particular stress. This stress is usually emotional and the body’s reaction to this has been to internalise this stress and come up with the symptom of pain.

It is therefore important to treat your whole body – mental, emotional and physical.

Bowen Therapy will be able to release that stress. It is also often helpful to use flower essences or homeopathy to deal with the emotional issues to allow you to move on to an overall better quality of life.
